Looks like i'll miss it.. i need service pack 2, and between a dial-up connection and getting it from a friend, it will be a few days.

...? Ive heard more bad things than good about service pack 2 (from gamer friends and my own dad, who had to re-install windows after SP2 screwed him over), and being 266mb, as a user of 56k internet maybe you can see why i wasnt exactly hastily rushing to the nearest net cafe to download it.

I have no idea if it's the problem yet. From what Western Digital tells me, no, it wont fix it. From what the techies at techsupportforum.com tell me, yea, it might fix it. Ive tried so many things already that it's worth a shot...

I did. And i tried it. Well, i used it to make a boot disk which had no drivers on it (i did like u said and pressed F6, but no drivers were found on that disk). I was otherwise able to use the disk to format the drive but the XP installation still didnt recognize the drive. No drivers were included with the disk that came with the drive, so atm im downloading controller card drivers (which probably wont make a difference, but oh well). Yea, it didnt work. What i need are drivers for the drive (like u said), but they arent on the Western Digital website nor are they on the disk that came with my drive.
